The life of a supermodel during fashion month is, well, hectic to say the least. The super-booked talents have to dash from one designer’s show to the next, so it’s not unusual for them to leave venues with their full runway hair and make-up looks still intact. There’s just no time to de-glam! But only true model pros can successfully take the hyper done-up looks that artists have created for them backstage and make them work on the streets. Take Korean beauty Soo Joo Park, for instance: just last month, she took a dark chocolate lip fresh off the Off-White Fall 2019 menswear show and rocked it. Now, Gigi Hadid is the latest to perfect the runway-to-real transition.

After walking Michael Kors’s Fall 2019 runway show in New York City—the collection was inspired by Studio 54 and the glitzy disco era—the model then left the show with her bouncy, dance floor-ready curls in tow. The theatrical, Farrah Fawcett-esque hair, high on volume executed by Orlando Pita, first appeared on the catwalk underneath a veiled chapeau; post-show, Hadid then freed her curls and took them to the streets, pairing them with a more casual neon sweater and jeans. The takeaway? Owning a runway look takes some skilled strategy and styling, sure—but mostly, it’s all about confidence.
