Last night, Lady Gaga kicked off her much-anticipated “Enigma” residency in Las Vegas to a star-studded audience (think: Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, and more). Unsurprisingly, Gaga served the crowd with new hits and old tricks, including some pretty major fashion and beauty looks. And while it’s only natural for a pop star whose built her career off theatrical, ever-changing wigs and experimental makeup—not to mention an enormous talent that may just win her an Oscar this awards seasons—to deliver a slew of show-stopping looks, there was one surprising switch-up for the stage: her electric blue dye job.
Under the stage lights, her colored lengths—which at times read more icy than bold, and were either left free to head-bang with or curled and capped off by a black, sculpturesque topper—appeared otherworldly. And while it’s too soon to say whether the beauty moment is due to a well-applied wig, thanks to her Haus of Gaga hair stylist Frederic Aspiras, committing to a frosty blue hue is not out of the realm of Gaga’s imagination. No stranger to switching up her hair color, especially when on tour—remember her acid yellow look for “Monster Ball?”—the star has seamlessly transitioned from peroxide blonde to dark brunette, and had even undergone a rainbow transformation in the name of Pride.
And in true Gaga form, last night’s over-the-top glam didn’t stop with her hair. The A Star Is Born entertainer complemented the new hue with matching makeup, snow blue eye pigment and a long, black cat eye—a look that called for heavy lashes, and a well defined brow, of course. Just a dash of pink highlighter, and an equally electrifying tangerine pout, finished off the futuristic turn. It was a grand look at Gaga’s alter-ego—the enigma—and, man, does she play by her own beauty rules, too.
