Before launching into her nighttime routine, model Xiao Wen Ju takes a long, deep breath. And it’s deserved— the Chinese beauty’s pre-bed ritual is not for the faint of heart. Sparing no effort, Ju is here to share the scrupulous nine-step skin-care regimen that helps her maintain that translucent glow.
With her dark lengths pulled back in a wispy topknot, Ju begins by saturating cotton rounds in Chanel’s Démaquillant Yeux Intense eye-makeup remover, holding one pad over each eye for 10 seconds while stubborn pigments melt away. To rinse off the rest of her makeup, she turns to French drugstore favorite?Bioderma Sensibio H2O micellar water. “I have been using this since I started modeling,” she explains. “All the makeup artists use it!” Then, taking cleansing to the next level, she spreads a veil of La Mer’s Cleansing Foam all over and uses a gua sha facial tool to give herself a facial massage. “I use it on my face, [when] I want to relax [it] a little bit,” she says. “I don’t have any instructions, I just follow the lines of my face. See the blood? It helps [it circulate].”
Once every trace of makeup has been removed, Ju moves onto a quick five-minute eye-mask session with Joanna Vargas’s Bright Eye Hydrating Mask. “Maybe next Halloween, I will [wear] this on the street,” she jokes. After removing the sheet, she cools down her skin with a few blasts of face mist before applying Biologique Recherche’s cult P50 toning lotion, which works to gently even out her skin tone over time. “It smells like vinegar, I love it!” she says. Switching gears to deep hydration, she begins by haphazardly spreading on a creamy moisturizer (“I like to slap it on my face,” she laughs) before layering two different serums, hailing the latter—Biologique Recherche’s Le Grand Serum—as her secret weapon. “It’s [as] important [to skin care] as salt is for cooking,” she insists. After almost forgetting the final step, a slick of nourishing lip balm on the mouth, it’s finally time to turn in. “Ta-da!” she shouts, admiring her reflection one last time before heading to catch some hard-earned shut-eye.
