EXO’s Chanyeol Puts His Stamp on a Saucy Men’s Trend

EXO’s Chanyeol is one of the South Korean boy band’s most stylish members (though, collectively, all nine of them have their own distinctive flavor). Last night, the superstar continued infiltrating the fashion world, hitting the red carpet solo at a Versace party in Hong Kong. For his appearance at the Italian label’s soirée, he wore Look 1 from its recent Fall 2019 menswear show—and it proved to be a trippy take on one of the hottest men’s trends of the moment.

Surprisingly, bondage-style harnesses have been all the rage with male celebrities as of late. Ever since Virgil Abloh designed some monogram-covered styles for his Spring 2019 Louis Vuitton menswear collection, they have since taken off with daring Hollywood gents. Spottings have ranged from risk-takers such as Timothée Chalamet, who wore one to the Golden Globes, to more unexpected suspects, like actor Terry Crews, who wore one to an Oscars after-party.

Chanyeol’s take? Well, it was more of a trompe-l’oeil interpretation, where he slipped on a white Versace button-up shirt that had a harness design printed onto it. (Less constricting, but equally statement-making.) He styled the graphic top with a leather trench—another major trend with celebrities—and sleek black trousers. On his feet, he then went a sporty route with some chunky “Cross Chainer” sneakers. So, if you’re intrigued by the trend, but too timid to buckle into the saucy accessory, consider a fake-out version like his instead.
